  6. PROBLEM:   Windows 3.1 screen blanker does not work correctly in combination
  7.            with DOS applications.
  8.  
  9. SYMPTOMS:  This problem occurred on a machine that is used to run several DOS
  10.            applications under Windows.  When exiting one of these applications
  11.            and returning to Program Manager, sometimes the screen wouldn't
  12.            blank.  There didn't seem to be a pattern to this erratic behavior.

  14. SOLUTION:  Make sure that Program Manager is the currently selected task.  If
  15.            a minimized DOS application is the current task, Windows will not
  16.            blank the screen.  To make Program Manager the current task, click
  17.            on its title bar, or anywhere within its window.

  19.            I have found two ways to reproduce this problem, although there may
  20.            be more.  Open two DOS applications, and switch between them
  21.            several times using [ALT-TAB].  Be certain that you are switching
  22.            directly between the two DOS applications, without accessing
  23.            Program Manager.  Exit normally from one DOS application, which
  24.            should bring you back to Program Manager.  A close examination of
  25.            the screen shows that the other DOS application is the current
  26.            task, not Program Manager.  (Look at the Program Manager title bar,
  27.            and see that it is NOT highlighted.)  Since the minimized DOS
  28.            application is the current task, Windows will not blank the screen.
  29.            This is consistent with the way I use my DOS applications under
  30.            Windows 3.1, and is the reason that this problem occurred on my
  31.            system.

  33.            Another way to reproduce this problem is to open one or more DOS
  34.            applications, and press [ALT-ESC] to switch between tasks.  As you
  35.            switch between the tasks, notice that when a minimized DOS
  36.            application is highlighted, Program Manager's title bar is not.
  37.            When this occurs, Windows will not blank the screen.
